Deakin’s School of Medicine works to enhance the communities we serve through outstanding clinical training and research. School staff participate in the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (iMPACT) and work with our community partners to achieve world-class results.

The Senior Lecturer will be required to teach in the area of medical biotechnology, as well as undertake research, publish, and attract funding within the broad area of health and medical research. The appointee will promote the School and establish and maintain links and partnerships with the academic, industry and professional communities. The appointee will make an independent contribution to the School and Faculty’s teaching, research, program development, and relevant service activities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide an excellent contribution to the School’s teaching and research programs
  • Exhibit and/or publish high quality research in national journals of high repute
  • Contribute to leadership which enhances the achievement of Deakin’s strategic goals in research, teaching, engagement and innovation
  • Contribute to the development of the Schools research agenda, including in competitive external research funding activities and performance in ERA
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning, including identifying and responding to opportunities to advance the discipline
  • Contribute strongly to the leadership of the School, Faculty and University
  • Develop strong relationships with research, community, industry and government for enhanced teaching and research outcomes

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline and/or advanced qualifications and experience in the relevant discipline area
  • Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design and research supervision
  • Nationally recognised research reputation underpinned by publications in quality journals and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research grants
  • Positive engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national standing of the discipline
  • Demonstrated capacity and passion for leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues *desirable
