JOB DESCRIPTION

The Community and International Engagement (CIE) section provides a broad range of services to support the AEC's community and international partnerships and programs.

The CIE section works with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to deliver international programs and outreach activities to countries in the Indo-Pacific region. These programs focus on improving electoral processes and knowledge within these countries, as well as facilitating knowledge exchange and study programs.

The section is also responsible for setting the strategic direction and the delivery of community engagement, awareness and outreach programs to a diverse range of national audiences through working with a wide range of stakeholders across Australia.

The key duties of the position include
The Senior Engagement Officer, supports the day to day management of matters of the section. This includes election and referendum assistance to foreign countries or organisations, support on democratic reform agendas, particularly in developing democracies and program management, including managing international deployments and other duties as directed or required.

The role is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex to complex and/or sensitive in nature, under limited direction, utilising expertise and knowledge within the above area. Participating in section planning for short term tasks and contributing to strategic planning for longer term initiatives also forms part of this role.

This role contributes to and performs matters relating to electoral support programs implemented by the AEC ensuring that appropriate governance arrangements are in place to support program accountability, compliance, risk and reporting. Along with contributing to doctrine, election preparation and delivery activities in accordance with the election readiness framework, according to individual accountabilities and responsibilities.

To excel you'll have:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate in a complex cross-cultural environment, effectively support and manage key stakeholder relationships and expectations and proven ability to anticipate international stakeholder needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in international development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time and on budget in a project / program context.
  • Proven analytical abilities with the ability to propose and facilitate change and contribute to business improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, including staff on temporary international deployments while developing capabilities and embedding professionalism.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative, program and policy parameters.
  • The proven ability to maintain partnerships with other Australian Government Departments, national and international organisations and partner international election bodies regarding electoral matters. Desirable
    • Relevant tertiary qualifications in international services, public administration or similar and/or practical experience working in development, including in-country experience.
    • Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.
    • Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of the Commonwealth Resource Framework.
