About the Opportunity

In this exciting, fast-paced role you will provide strategic, political and governance advice to the Lord Mayor to assist in their Capital City and civic leadership responsibilities. You will liaise between the Lord Mayor, Elected Members, the Administration, key stakeholders and the community to influence and promote the development of effective relationships and deliver the best outcomes for Council and the City of Adelaide, in line with our Strategic Plan. With a firm focus on supporting our City as we grow and recover from the impacts of COVID-19, this is an exciting time to join a committed team and play a key role in supporting the Lord Mayor and the organisation to deliver on projects and outcomes that will truly make a difference to our community. 


In this role you will pre-empt and proactively seek information, maintain awareness and provide strategic advice on a wide range of sensitive, complex and political matters. This will include researching and preparing Council reports, motions, submissions and correspondence on policy matters and strategic priorities as well as facilitating responses to enquiries, information requests and matters of concern addressed to the Office of the Lord Mayor. You will prepare, review and provide briefings to support the Lord Mayor’s leadership of Council business, including meetings of Council, The Committee, the Capital City Committee, the Audit Committee, the Reconciliation Committee and the Adelaide Park Lands Authority (APLA).


A key part of your role will be developing and maintaining effective relationships with Local, State and Federal Elected Members, Ministerial Offices and Departments on a broad range of matters, projects and opportunities. You will also manage and provide advice on a broad range of special projects, community initiatives, forums, civic functions and other activities on behalf of the Office of the Lord Mayor, including joining the Lord Mayor in key meetings and events.


About You

To be successful in this role you will have:


  • An understanding of political processes and protocols at a Federal, State and Local Government level.
  • The ability to efficiently analyse complex, politically sensitive information and formulate measured responses to minimise risk and identify opportunities.
  • Proven experience in the development of a range of professional documents, including correspondence, presentations, submissions, briefing papers and reports.
  • Ability to effectively lead, influence and manage projects in a highly accountable environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in working in a high-profile and high-pressure environment requiring professionalism, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • The appetite to make a difference, be proactive and work as part of a highly efficient and productive team to get things done.
