Deakin Research is a central division of the University which manages the higher degrees by research program, research grants and fellowships, relationships with commercial partners, ethics and integrity. GRA is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Project Officer to provide oversight of project development, management and implementation aimed at optimising the student research experience and enhancing the HDR training program at Deakin University, PhD Xtra.

Your excellent stakeholder engagement skills coupled with strong report writing will see you develop and improve administrative processes in the GRA to ensure that maximum efficiency, quality and effectiveness is maintained.

Reporting to the Manager, Program Enhancement, this is a Fixed-term contract based at our beautiful Waurn Ponds Campus in Geelong.

Your key responsibilities will include, and not limited to:

  • Manage the entire project life cycle including the design, planning, development and implementation of specific projects to improve processes, gain system efficiencies and improve student experience.
  • Contribute to improvements of processes and support services within the GRA by conducting data collection and analysis including the coordination of focus groups and surveys to provide direction on higher degree by research program enhancement opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with professional and academic staff in Faculties, Institutes, and other Areas by actively connecting, engaging, and enhancing working relationships.
  • Collect and analyse data for the preparation of reports relating to all areas of GRA responsibility.
  • Develop and write reports to inform management and the broader university community on program reviews, evaluations and outcomes and to propose enhancements and improvements where appropriate.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised tertiary institution or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Excellent management skills including the ability to plan and coordinate activities and provide advice at senior levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills with a high attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Proven computer literacy skills, including use of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to build strong relationships and produce clear and accurate communications.
  • Previous experience in tertiary education sector would be highly desirable.
