An exciting opportunity exists for a versatile Teacher Aide to join the West Moreton Education and Training Centre. We are looking for a competent all-rounder who can work across multiple disciplines. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the teacher, to assist in the classroom and support and encourage students in their learning. The ideal applicant will have a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young people.

About West Moreton Education and Training Centre

The West Moreton Education and Training Centre is a co-educational school which delivers educational programs for up to 32 remanded and sentenced young people at West Moreton Youth Detention Centre located in Wacol. The centre operates on a 1:4 teacher student ratio. The school works collaboratively with interdepartmental agencies in restorative practices and to address literacy/numeracy gaps. We offer courses aimed at preparing students for transition to the community, employment and further training. Our staff are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling.

Your Role

The role of a teacher aide is incredibly varied and includes but is not limited to general classroom support, especially in the areas of literacy and numeracy; preparation of resources (including technology) and administrative duties such as photocopying and filing.

As the teacher aide you may be asked to provide specialist support in areas such as:

Language and culture for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students;
Specific learning needs;
Students with a disability;
Behaviour;
English as a second language;
Health and Physical education;
Secondary school subjects such as hospitality, horticulture, manual arts.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
