About the role
Reporting to the Manager Strategic and Statutory Planning, this is an opportunity for an experienced statutory planner to join the leadership team and contribute to the future direction and goals of the department.
In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of planning officers and statutory planning staff to deliver statutory planning and related services to the Boroondara community and the exercise of authority under Council's Deed of Delegation.
The position requires a strong multi-disciplinary approach to projects within the department and across the organisation, and contributes to the achievement of council objectives at a corporate, group and departmental level.
The position will also play a significant role in in analysing internal processes and implementing improvements to create efficiencies and build customer focus.

About you
You are an effective leader, you work with your teams to achieve big things - you are accountable and provide opportunities for development and have an open feedback loop. You communicate with impact and have experience in leading a team of technical and administrative staff.


Skills and Experience


  • Tertiary qualification in Town Planning / Urban Studies / Environmental Planning recognised by the Planning Institute of Australian or Postgraduate qualifications in a statutory planning related discipline.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and developing staff

  • Detailed understanding and experience in dealing with the principles of statutory planning, the planning system and legislation and their application at the Local Government level.

  • High level ability to professionally represent Council in public forums

  • Skills in dealing effectively and diplomatically with conflict, complaints and enquiries;

  • Proven ability to problem solve, develop alternative and innovative responses to improving the delivery of services and providing solutions to the needs of the community.
