This leading Commonwealth Department is currently seeking a Policy Officer at the APS 6/EL 1 level to join their team in Canberra’s CBD on an initial 3-month contract with further extension opportunities.

As a Senior Policy Officer and at times, Assistant Director for the Policy and Grants Program section you will assist with the design and implementation of grants programs in conjunction with other Commonwealth Departments. You will be managing grants under the Departments’ Regional Development Grants Program and supporting other programs as required.

We are seeking candidates with a solid understanding of grants design and management to ensure that the department’s legislations, rules, guidelines, and principles are appropriately addressed. You will have in-depth knowledge of the grant lifecycle, the capability to design grants, oversee grants programs under limited guidance and develop policies and frameworks for each grant round.

The duties of this role would include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and implementation of a new grants program
  • Providing oversight of existing grants programs, including effective planning and organisation
  • Providing advice and direction consistent with the Current Grant Guidelines.
  • Synthesis of information from a range of sources to support evidence-based decision making, governed by relevant regulations, instructions, and procedures.
  • Preparation of relevant documentation including ministerial correspondence, briefings, submissions, replies to parliamentary questions and reports, and communications material
  • Demonstrating leadership and contributing to effective team culture.

We are looking for candidates who are experienced in grant design and management with a strong understanding of legislative, financial, administrative and risk frameworks as well as having the ability to quickly establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

This role may require a Baseline Clearance
