JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you looking to firm up your plans for harvest in advance? Are you experienced in machine operation and maintenance and looking for a long harvest season? Our client is a large hay contractor in the Great Southern Region looking for someone to start immediately to assist with pre season mechanical work in the work shop until hay season starts in September. We have received great feedback from previous casual staff.

Main Duties:

  • Work shop machinery maintenance work - now till September;
  • Baling:
    • Hay - starting September until late October/early November;
    • Straw - starting late October/early November until January/February 2022.


To be successful:

  • Good mechanical skills are preferred. Must be mechanically minded. However, for the right person that is willing to learn, this would be a great opportunity for someone who comes from a farming background who would like to develop their skills further;
  • Strong broad acre machinery skills - those with square baler experience will be highly regarded;
  • Must be eager to work long hours during baling; Machine shop work will be 5-6 days up to 10 hours per day;
  • Great communication skills and ability to fit within a large baling team; Work shop team will consist of 4 people;
  • Fit and healthy.

Machinery:

  • Team of 4 in the work shop repairing and maintaining the equipment;
  • Team of up to 20 balers;
  • Krone and Massey Ferguson large square balers - all fairly new (1-2 seasons old);
  • John Deere 8520 and John Deere 4640 tractors;
  • All machinery well maintained and reliable;
  • No GPS/Autosteer.

Rates:

  • Attractive hourly rate dependent on experience + $0.80c per bale. During baling there will be split shifts and plenty of hours (12-13 per day).


Accommodation/Food:

  • 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom self contained donga available on the property;
  • Accommodation and food provided provided during the baling season.
