The Position:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced and qualified candidate to join the Shire of Broome in the role of Special Projects Coordinator. This position will report to the Manager Community Engagement and Projects.

The Special Projects Coordinator is responsible for the development of feasibility studies, business cases, concept development, investigation and planning for key projects within the Shire. This position will also coordinate the delivery of large capital projects and other project work as directed.

The Person We Seek:

The preferred candidate will have highly developed communication skills both written and verbal and have relevant qualifications in project management or significant relevant experience. In addition you will have demonstrated experience successfully developing and acquitting grant funding applications, preparing feasibility studies and business cases and managing high value capital projects through to completion.

Previous experience in a similar position in a Local Government, Project Management would also be highly regarded.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of, securing funding for and delivery of capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing feasibility studies and business cases.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management processes, building construction, contractor/sub-contractor management and occupational safety and health.
  • Experience in tender preparation, monitoring and control of contracts.
  • Experience in budget preparation, monitoring and control of projects.
  • Well developed time management and customer service skills.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy with current project management software knowledge and experience as applicable for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience in community and stakeholder engagement relating to projects.
  • Ability to manage consultants and contractors to achieve Directorate and project outcomes.

Qualifications and/or Training

  • Current unrestricted C class national driver’s license.
  • Relevant qualifications in project management or significant relevant experience, Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development training as required.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a similar position in Local Government, Project Management Consultancy.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislative requirement.
