The Wayside Systems Team are currently seeking a Systems Maintainer to join their team based in Toowoomba. You will be required to carry out the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical signalling equipment (including standby generator plants if applicable) throughout the West Moreton and Non-Coal districts to ensure safe and efficient operation of the asset.

About the role
This position looks after approximately 2300km of track, therefore you will need to be available to travel throughout Queensland and work away from home regularly. In addition, you will:
  • Install, maintain and repair mechanical signalling equipment in accordance with predefined work programs.
  • Maintain and repair standby generator plants in accordance with predefined work programs.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) requirements and legislative policies.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with technical and operational specification and standards.
  • Maintain all records and associated documentation relating to asset condition, maintenance programs and costing systems.
  • Report on actual maintenance performed verses the scheduled maintenance program and equipment performance and condition irregularities for defined section of responsibility.
  • Progress the implementation and application of work procedures and practices in pursuit of assuring and continuously improving quality.

About you
  • Substantial knowledge of the maintenance standards and procedures associated with mechanical signalling equipment.
  • Substantial skill in installation and maintenance of mechanical signalling equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of signalling safeworking practices and principles.
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety Act and relevant Queensland Rail safety policies and procedures.
  • Sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Current manual Queensland drivers licence.
  • The successful person will work towards obtaining a Certificate III in Mechanical Rail Signalling whilst working in the Role.

What to expect
  • Permanent full-time opportunity working across a 9-day fortnight. You will be required to work weekends and be on call on a rotating basis.
  • Penalties for weekend work (Saturday 50% penalty and Sunday 100% penalty) and being on-call.
  • Base salary of $57,213 + Superannuation plus pay increase as you develop your skills.
  • You must be willing to work away from home however travelling for field work will be part of your working hours. Queensland Rail will also pay for your accommodation when staying away from home.
  • Paid training and ongoing support to develop your experience with access to internal vacancies.
  • Strong focus on safety – we ‘work safe’ every day to ensure everyone goes ‘home safe’.
