ABOUT THE DIVISION
A division within the Commercial and Government Services Group, the Procurement and Insurance Division is responsible for:

providing advice and guidance to the Government on the procurement policy framework;
establishing whole of Australian Government’s centralised procurement arrangement for non-ICT procurements;
managing AusTender, the Australia Government’s centralised procurement information and e-tendering system;
providing technical advice to support Government procurement elements of international trade negotiations;
managing whole of government arrangements including travel, motor vehicle leasing, stationery and office supplies, and major office machines;
administering Comcover, the Australian Government’s self-managed fund for general insurable losses, and the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy; and
administering discretionary financial assistance through the Government’s special claims mechanism.

ABOUT THE ROLES

The division has several roles for junior project officers and administration officers. As a junior project officer or administration officer you will work collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on the responsibilities of the division. Successful candidates may be required to assist with:

development and outreach on procurement policies;
supporting procurement processes;
managing Whole of Australian Government contracts;
assessing and responding to legal or discretionary claims brought against the Government;
assisting with the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy; or
administrative duties in support of the division’s responsibilities.
The roles are an opportunity for successful candidates to build and develop skills in government procurement, contract management, claims management or a range of other areas that the division is responsible for. They will allow successful candidates to get hands on experience and may include opportunities to undertake job specific training.

Previous experience in government is not essential. However, successful candidates should be willing to engage with and learn relevant government frameworks, policies and processes.

ELIGIBILITY ADVICE & CANDIDATE NOTES

Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
These roles are being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for an initial period of 12 months. Specified term vacancies may be offer for a maximum of 18 months initially, and be extended up to a maximum period of three years
