About the team

The Office of the Special Advisor on Low Emissions Technologies supports the Australian Government's technology-led agenda to reduce emissions, and position Australia as a global low emissions technology leader.

The office has two broad functions; to establish high impact international partnerships to drive investment in Australia, and to lead strategy on low emissions technology investment.

The advertised role is responsible for low emissions technology strategy, with a focus on delivering annual Low Emissions Technology Statements, and supporting the Technology Investment Advisory Council.

Our ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be uniquely experienced and confident working directly with senior government and private sector stakeholders (CEO level), and communicate with clear purpose. This includes demonstrated sound judgement and the ability to distil complex issues into clear advice and direction.

The ideal candidate will also have relevant climate or low emissions technology expertise, and preferably a strong understanding of energy markets, and issues affecting low carbon industry transition in Australia.

What you will do

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the 'Technology Investment Roadmap' process, including:

delivering annual Low Emissions Technology Statements, the next of which is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2021
providing policy and administrative support to the Technology Investment Advisory Council, which advises the Minister for Energy and Emissions Reductions on annual Statements
representing the Australian Government in multilateral forums where we play a leadership role, including Mission Innovation and the Clean Energy Ministerial.

In addition to the qualities listed above, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

strong strategic intelligence, and the ability to identify and manage risk and opportunity
the ability to manage a high performing team to deliver a complex, and sometimes evolving program of work.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
