Margaret Hendry School is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Staffing Officer.

Provide support to the Principal, Business Manager, school Executive Team and other school staff in the administration of school staffing and attendance/absence processes.

Your major activities include but are not limited to:
Coordinate staffing/human resource management processes in accordance with legislation and policy requirements.
Provide a range of administrative services for the school in support of staff, parents/carers, students, and internal and external stakeholders.
Communicate and liaise with staff, parents/carers, students, the community, internal and external stakeholders; resolve enquiries; provide appropriate information and sound advice.
Prepare correspondence and reports; provide advice based on knowledge, interpret, and apply legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines.
Contribute to work area planning and decision making in support of school outcomes and business improvement.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment for students and staff; undertake relevant workplace health and safety requirements and, where necessary, undertake risk assessments and initiate appropriate action.

RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of Office practices and procedures.

RELEVANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES/SELECTION CRITERIA

Manage staffing/human resources processes. Ability to interpret and apply relevant ACT Public Service/Directorate human resource management legislation/policy.
Provide executive support to the Principal, coordinate and oversee the workflow of the Principal’s office, liaise with executive staff to facilitate the management of staffing.
Well-developed interpersonal and liaison skills, ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with staff, students, parents/carers and the community.
Coordinate and support meetings, presentations, and other school events, as required; provide secretariat support including, the preparation and distribution of meeting agenda and minutes, drafting and/or collation of papers. Secretariat and first aid support for the front office.
Manage customer relationships and negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders as required.
High level administrative skills including keyboard skills and the ability to operate a variety of computer programs, databases, and other records management systems.
Ability to apply equity and diversity, participative management and occupational health and safety principles and practices in the workplace.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
MANDATORY
Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/1804.

DESIRABLE

First Aid Certificate or a willingness to undertake appropriate training.
Certificate III or equivalent e.g., Business Administration (Education), Education Support, Government (School Support Services).
