The Assistant IDrector ICT Security will be expected to provide leadership and direction to DVA employees and contractors on best practice ICT security procedures, and to develop, implement and monitor Agency PSPF compliance and ICT security policy. They will provide awareness education and training to enhance the ICT security culture within DVA. They will be required to participate in DVA system accreditation processes, respond to ICT security incidents and provide advice for senior management on how to respond to these incidents. They will be reporting to the Director, ICT Security.

This position requires a strategic outlook on ICT security and a wide understanding of the broader security issues within the public service framework. Applicants for this position will be expected to have extensive Cyber Security experience.


Provide ICT Security advice and expertise with a focus on Certification, Risk, Compliance and Reporting. Provide guidance on security strategies to manage identified risks.
Evaluating/identifying areas of risk and analysing the need for effective use of additional IT experts
Provide Technical Support as per requirements for security controls for systems used by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
Support the section in various tasks including the provision of expert ICT Security advice, high quality ICT security documentations including Risk Assessments and System Security Plans.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including contracted entities, other Departments and Agencies, service providers and other interest groups.
Provide pragmatic risk based advice to DVA projects and programs of work delivered by DHS to DVA.
Assist in the development of the incident response plan and liaise with outsourced providers to ensure ICT security incidents are managed end to end.
Support the Directorate in various tasks including providing advice, guidance and support to DVA projects on Cyber Security including input to System Security Plans (SSP) and Threat Risk Assessment’s

A degree or formal qualifications in ICT security. Must have the ability to obtain Negative Vetting 1 Clearance.
