The Role

The Duty Solicitor provides access to justice to members of the public appearing before the Magistrates and Youth Courts and provides advice to persons in custody arrested on fresh charges and appear in Court for bail applications and/or simple guilty pleas.

The Duty Solicitor provides advice to members of the public appearing in court on bail and/or to members of the public on remand requiring duty solicitor advice. In addition to the Duty Solicitor role, the practitioner will also undertake file work and of assigned criminal files of low complexity.

Salary: $67,746 - $73,533 p.a. (LSC1)

Term of Employment Contract: 12 month contract

What You Need For Success

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia or currently eligible for admission to practice in South Australia.
  • Communicate effectively with persons from a wide range of backgrounds including differing socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and people with disabilities and carers.
  • Relate well to members of the judiciary, support staff, government and non-government agencies, other professional organisations, fellow legal practitioners and members of the public.
  • Work effectively both individually and as a member of a team showing commitment to achieving team objectives and organisational goals.
