An exciting opportunity is available for a senior clinician to join the team of speech pathologists at North Shore Ryde Hospital Service (NSRHS). This temporary position will provide clinical leadership for the stroke beds at Ryde Hospital in line with the stroke clinical care guidelines.

The main purpose of this position is to provide accurate assessment and intervention for inpatients with swallowing and communication disorders within the acute wards at Ryde Hospital.

Where you'll be working
The NSRHS Speech Pathology Department is located within the Division of Allied Health and Community Services and reports operationally through the Director of Allied Health and Community Services NSRHS to the Health Service Executive. The department provides speech pathology services across the North Shore & Ryde area with this position providing cover around all sectors of the speech pathology service at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) and Ryde hospitals including the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre (GRC).

What you'll be doing
This senior position specialises in the early management of stroke patients with communication and swallowing disorders at Ryde Hospital, including the up-skilling and education of the multidisciplinary team around the clinical care guidelines for stroke. This position will provide early intervention and rehabilitation for patients with communication and swallowing disorders in the acute setting prior to transfer to the on-site Graythwaite rehabilitation service.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  2. A bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Evidence of extensive clinical experience.
  3. Demonstrated current clinical knowledge and leadership in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders in Stroke patients, and a high level of contemporary interventional speech pathology skills.
  4. Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in instrumental assessment of swallowing, including Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowin (FEES).
  5. Evidence of proficient written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to liaise with novice and experienced health professionals and external service providers. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  6. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement activities or service evaluation process.
  7. Experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students, level 1/2 Allied Health Professionals and/or Allied Health Assistants.
  8. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. Have the ability to prioritise work, manage a demanding workload, apply high level reasoning skills and have independent professional judgement.
