Our client located in Tullamarine is looking for a Workplace Health & Safety coordinator for a 6 month contract role.

You'll be passionate about partnering with the business (site operations team) to ensure WHS risks are managed. You will drive their WHS culture with the site leaders and be instrumental in embedding their policies and processes and ensure compliance to all applicable local legislative obligations. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, you will lead continuous improvement to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for the Associates.

You must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing.

You will instruct and train Operations Leaders in WHS policies and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our safety standards at their site. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the safety landscape. You will possess excellent workplace/occupational health and safety program knowledge and be able to demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations.

Workplace Health & Safety Professional Responsibilities

  • Possess a thorough understanding of Australian WHS legislation
  • Completion of risk assessments related to EHS hazards.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable WHS Policies and Global Standards. Develop local site WHS procedures and processes to meet our clients Global Standards
  • Measure sites' performance against published requirements in safety and health policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
  • Deliver on-time and quality projects to Operations.
  • Analyse safety metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to rationalise the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the WHS risk is highest.
  • Perform frequent site WHS audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.
  • Audit record-keeping practices and Global Safety Database entries to be aligned with global safety standards and local regulations.
  • Audit the workplace organisation and Associate behaviours to ensure that training, auditing and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
  • Lead and mentor Safety Associates or H&S representatives in your assigned facility.
  • Championing the site WHS committee, and providing guidance and support for H&S representatives.
  • Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their WHS responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Ensure contractor management safety processes are implemented.


  • 4 to 5+ years of growing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • Significant Australian experience working in safety
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Bachelor or diploma degree in safety, environmental, or a related field or significant work experience within these areas.
  • Distribution Centre or Manufacturing WHS experience with mix of staff and contractors and non-exempt employees in 24/7 operations.
  • Injury management and return to work experience/qualification
  • Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organisation. Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including collaborating with site leaders.
  • Ability to develop and implement WHS goals, strategies, improvement plans.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of pivot tables and the development of charts and graphics.
  • Experience with WHS regulators (e.g. WorkSafe)

Job Offer

This is a 6 month contract role with Full time Hours. The successful candidate maybe required to initially work at the Dandenong South warehouse.
